Safari West ... again!

What's with that???? [We went to Safari West for Thanksgiving dinner again this year and had a great time. Safari West, a wildlife preserve, is home for over 400 exotic mammals and birds. We got to feed the giraffes and huge cat fish and see the baby giraffe and lemur. Lots of fun!]

Fluff Bucket Alert!

What's with the big fluff of orange and white???????

Call the guinea pig police, NOW! I will not be replaced!!! Call the SPCA, stat! WHEEK! [Momo emailed me to tell me that there was a guinea pig who needed a new home and he looked very similar to Jasmine. I had already contacted the person and found out that he was no longer available. However, it turned out that the person who took him was the same person that I got Queenie and Lil' Kim from. She took him in so that he would not become snake food and she set about looking for a new home for him. When she found out that I had wanted him she said that he could come live with me. So Bobby stayed at “Yuko's Cavy Spa” where he got all spiffed up and then he went on to “Momo's Cozy Hotel” where he got to take treks around her kitchen. I picked him up on Wednesday evening and we headed towards his new home “up north”. He’s nearly twice Jasmine’s size and not too similar in personality other than the fact that they are/were both very inquisitive and like to watch what is going on around them. A verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry pregnant pig was here!

... what's with that! No more pregnant pigs! [Becky and her mother rescued some guinea pigs who were going to be set free outside to fend for themselves. My local shelter offered to take them and place them so I went and picked them up and delivered them to the shelter yesterday. The female is very pregnant and went straight into foster care. I was not able to keep her and foster her for the shelter since I have Sammy and Misha who are currently being treated for medical problems.]

What's with the email from Disney Enterprises???

Hellloooooooooooo .. where are you? Who is Bugsy???? No bugs allowed!!! Wheek! [Disney studio contacted me about their upcoming movie that opens in theaters on Christmas day and features a guinea pig names Bugsy. More information may be found on the home page of Guinea Pig Fun. Enjoy!]

$20 for laundry???

 What's with that???? Tell them to do their own laundry! Wheek! [The total came to $20 for doing Sammy and Misha's weekly laundry at the laundromat last night. Lots of laundry because they both most likely have kidney-related problems.]

Paging Dr. D ...

Helllllooooooooooo, where are you???? Sammy Roo and Misha need you! Wheek! [Both Sammy and Misha were checked out by Dr. Debra today. Sammy has always had a high water intake and urine output and recently lost weight. The first step for his workup was a urinalysis to see if he has an infection. Other options were an x-ray and blood work, however, it most likely is not a UTI since he has had it since I got him. The missing hair on Misha’s back is not of concern is not believed to be fungal. She had hair loss there when she was picked up at SF ACC and it’s possible that it is hormonal. Her stomach sounded gassy and the vet couldn’t locate the left kidney and she has lost weight. It’s possible that it is related to her cancer or with her age it may be kidney related. So for Sammy he has a possible urinary infection, kidney disease or stones. For Misha, she has possible kidney disease or new or re-growth of her mammary gland cancer. Both were put on a two week course of Baytril.]

Dorita escaped from her pen!

She thinks she's so cool! Play with your toys, Dorita! No more escaping! Wheek! [Dorita is a typical happy-go-lucky little kitten (she is nine weeks old) and loves running and climbing. Her best trick is climbing out of her pen or blocked-off area in 2 seconds or less. During the time that she cannot be supervised she is kept safely in a closed pen.]

Sammy's wet again!

What's with that, Sammy? Get out of the water, now! Wheek! [Sammy is a young male who has a very high water intake and urine output and his cage is quite wet in spots and needs to be spot cleaned regularly. His cage now has thick vet bedding in it and a low tray with Carefresh for his hay and pellets. Today he was all wet around his rear end again even though his long hair was trimmed short around his rear end so he would remain dry.]

Billy, wake up!

No more sleeping! Kathy can't tell if you are alive or dead! Wheek! [Tonight Billy wasn't moving except to turn from one side to another. I truly thought he was dying since his cage mate was on the other side of the cage. Either he or Lucky has a very high urine output and both are older pigs. Two other older males also had similar symptoms and they both died of kidney failure.]
