Call the Guinea Pig Dentist, now! Wheek! [Angelina has some debris between her upper incisors and behind them most likely because she was fed bread and now has a fungal infection in her mouth. Her lips sores are being treated with diluted Nolvasan and Silvadene cream and she is taking Bactrim and Vitamin C and Metacam. Tomorrow she will start taking Nystatin orally. Pumpkin is really dirty!
Don't step in the poop, Pumpkin! Wheek! [Pumpkin had really soft feces that ended up clumping so she had to be given a "butt" bath and she had her feet washed this morning. I started her on Metronidazole/Flagyl and tonight there were no soft stools. She had a very high water intake and urine output tonight. I did notice crusty nipples tonight which may explain her hair loss; both are symptoms of an ovarian cyst.]
What's with the skunk?
It's black and white and very small! No baby skunks allowed! ["Skunk's" caretaker called asking for help regarding her guinea pig. She had taken her to her own vet but the guinea pig was still having problems medically. I offered to take her home to try to treat her and discovered that she has multiple problems. These are the vet's findings:
1. Corneal scar/ulcer of the left eye (on the side that her head tilts)
2. Very thin; hydrated
3. Mild respiratory effort: possible lung disease; heart sounded fine
4. Head tilt: inner ear infection vs central nervous system problem; mild circling to left
5. Elongated and angulation of upper and lower incisors (see the photo
below; while not a great image, it does show the problem); possible
spur on one left lower molar (not entrapping tongue or rubbing inside
of mouth)
6. Moderate swelling of all foot pads; no open sores or infection
7. Conjunctivitis: both eyes
Her incisors were trimmed and the Metacam and Bactrim are being continued as well as liquid Vitamin C and Oxbow's Cricial care as needed. In addition, she is being given Terramyacin in her left eye twice a day.]
What's with the mouth???
Who is Angelina and why is she here? I want to know, now! Call the SPCA. Wheek! [Angelina was Daisy's former cage mate. Daisy was returned after seven months or so since she was chasing and biting Angelina. Both were fed large amounts of apples and bread daily in addition to lots of veggies along with their hay and pellets. Both developed lips sores but Angelina's was worse. Daisy's appears to be resolved with the treatment but so far Angelina still has the problem and so she is still being treated.]
Who got adopted today?
Ringo, that's who! They love him! [Ringo went to live with an awesome couple today. Click the photos to view larger images of the signs they made for the front door ... they even had ribbons on the door knob! The photo on the right shows Ringo in his cage. Soon he will have a pen set up outside his cage so he can come and go when he wants to. Also, they have a parsley patch in their backyard which will make Ringo very happy.]

What's with the orange fluff?????
Hellllllllooooo, call the ASPCA, now! Get her out of there! No tiny fluffy pigs allowed! Don't call her Jasmine ... or I will call the guinea-pig police! [I received a call from a shelter that they would not be able to place the female Texel up for adoption due to her medical condition. I picked her up after work and gave her a bath since she has soft feces and was standing in them and
was dirty. I got the dried feces off of her rear foot pads and there is
bumble foot on both rear pads. I soaked them in diluted Chlorhexi and
then applied Silvadene cream to them. Then once in her quarantine cage
she promptly stepped in the feces again (see photo below) so she had to
have her pads wiped clean (which will need to be done until her stools
firm up). I don't know how old she is but she doesn't weight much:
1-11.1lb/767g. She started eating Kleenmama's bluegrass hay as soon as
she was in the cage and also ate some pellets. I did get some fresh
veggies but did not give them to her yet due to her soft feces. After
two baths she does not show any symptoms of mites (that the other
person saw) but I will treat her for mites probably three more times.
The hair loss may be due to excessive breeding, the high hormonal
demand on the body during pregnancy, mites, or nutritional

Ringo is running in circles!
He's a blur and driving Dorita nuts! They match! Why? They are the same color, that's why! Who's Dorita? A kitten,that's who! Wheek! [Ringo seems to be recovering nicely from his self-inflicted injuries as the result of his mites. He loves to do very fast laps and tight figure eight turns.]
Ringo's here ...
LionCalie rescued Ringo from a shelter where he was being fed hamster food. She brought him to Sergio who transported him over 100 miles to GPF. Thanks to you both! He has been treated with Ivermectin for his mites and will be given a bath later. More photos coming ... stay tuned. [The spot on the right-hand side was an open wound/sore that has healed over.
